Clearing is a way of matching a university which needs students, to students needing a university, and in 2018 it will start in September. If you not have received any offers from any universities which you applied to, or have seen on results day that you didn’t receive the grades which were required to reach your university choices, Clearing is a second chance for you to obtain a place at a university.
- For many students, Clearing will only become accessible after their results have been released and they haven’t managed to match the entry criteria for their selected courses.
Clearing is also accessible for those students who may already have their results and don’t hold an offer at any University.
- Should you apply to university for entry at the proper time you will then be automatically entered into Clearing.
What You Must Do
You will have to find a university which will accept you and the best way to achieve this is by checking out their website, or call the university and tell them exactly what you would like to do, such as humanities clearing in 2018.
- In the majority of cases, if they have any vacancies, they will then take down your details and give you either a decision on the spot or very soon afterwards.
Below are some important matters to be aware of and remember if you find it necessary to make use of Clearing:
Being ready is Essential – Even if you believe that you’ve obtained the results you want, always have a back-up plan prior to results day. Make a note of other courses and universities where you may wish to go in an order from 1 – 5.
Don’t Wait Around until August –Although A level results day is in August, if you’re studying other qualifications, Clearing will start as soon as you’ve got your results in July. Many international students may have already gotten their results already in July, so don’t hang around.
Make sure that you are around – Just be there and you can take that holiday on a Thai island later! Timing is more than important.
Remain positive! – Don’t get all stressed out and try to chill out and relax and take things as they come to you.
Keep an eye on UCAS Track – Should you become eligible for Clearing, the ‘Add Clearing choice’ button will then become ready for use.
Stay flexible – Think about combining your course with one more to help maximise.
Make that call – Any university will be much more positively impressed if you earnestly ring them, and will be more likely to provide you with a place.
And Remember – There will be some vacancies that won’t happen to be featured in the official listings. These are typically grabbed within hours, so try calling rather quickly if there’s somewhere which takes your fancy!
And a last little piece of advice – DO NOT PANIC!
